One Page Websites vs. Multiple Page Websites

A one page website as the name suggests, has only one main page that is scrollable. These types of websites take advantage of the fact that social media has an “infinite scroll”, and people are used to spending most of their time in their main newsfeed insteading of clicking away to other pages.

One page websites work well if the information that is communicated is kept to a minimum and striking images are used throughout the page. It also provides a cost effective solution to businesses who want to have a website without spending too much money. One page website can be upgraded to multiple page websites in the future.

If you have a lot of information that you would like to communicate or have a website that provides in depth information and content of what your business has to offer, then it would make more sense to have a multiple page website where each part of the website has in depth information.

Sections

We break the pages into what we call “sections”. Although this is not an exact measurement, it allows us to limit and keep track of the work that needs to be done, we usually have certain limitations on what the amount of content per section can be, such as a suggested amount of words, images etc.

  • Header Section

The header is the top part of your website that usually contains your website’s menu, logo, main contact email and phone number, as well as icons that link to your primary social media platforms. Depending on the website’s design, and also what the hero section looks like, this header may be hidden until scroll, or have a slightly different layout so that it does not interfere with the hero section (such as having the logo hidden until scroll etc.)

The menu can either link to the different pages on your website, or it can make use of “anchor links” that scroll to different sections of the website (this is usually the case for a one page website)

Although this is the smallest section of the website, it is a very important one. It has limited content but requires some technical work such as setting up anchor links and it also allows our team to create the “sitemap” of your website.

  • Hero Section

This is the top section of the website, also the very 1st thing people will see when they visit your website. This section has to capture the attention of your ideal customer and also tell people what they can expect from your site without scrolling any further.

We recommend having your logo in this section with a catchy headline of 5 to 10 words, a sub heading or slogan 10 to 20 words, and a big Call to Action button of what you want someone to do on your website.

The hero section can also contain a striking image that explains what you do in a picture. The section can also have a background image for added effect.

  • Services Section

This section should provide information about what you have to offer, be it services, products etc. You can have up to 8 “blurbs” or “slides” in this section. A blurb is a module that contains the following: A relevant image of the product/service that you offer, a Headline 3 to 7 words describing the product or service that you offer, and a small paragraph giving more information about the product or service, ideally no more than 35 words. A slide is similar to a blurb but stands on its own, it can also have a background image if desired.

On multiple page websites, these blurbs or slides can link to pages with more information on each product or service.

  • About Us Section

The about us section should provide information about your business, who you are, what your mission and vision is, and a brief history of your business, this gives the person who visits your website that human element. We recommend having a picture of your team or your physical business in this section, with a brief history of who you are (up to 150 words), you can also include your vision, mission and values here, although we recommend having your short version, you can have up to 3 blurbs or slides with your vision, mission and values.

On a multiple page website this section can link to a dedicated page that contains more information, or expanded information on your business, its history, its processes, its certificates, your team and much more.

  • Gallery Section

The gallery will be an interactive photo gallery of your latest products or projects, this provides social proof of what you do. We recommend using your own photos and not stock photos for this section, if you do not have any of your own photos we can use stock images. The gallery will display up to 8 images initially, but it can have more pages with 8 images each. We recommend keeping this gallery updated and having no more than 32 photos in total on this gallery, only displaying your best pictures. The images will open up in a “lightbox” to view a larger version of the image.

On a website with multiple pages there can even be a dynamic gallery with categories and archived content such as project pictures etc.

  • Contact Section

The contact section will have the important information on how people can get in touch with you. We typically have a “Visit Us” headline with your physical address as well as a Google Map embedded (you will need to have your business listed on Google Maps in order for this to display properly)

We will also list your important contact information such as your email address and phone numbers, you can also list names and details of relevant persons such as sales, accounts etc. You can also have a contact form on your website which we highly recommend. This contact form will be set up to send the responses to an email address of your choosing, this contact form is important if you plan on setting up Conversion tracking with Google Ads.

We can also add social media icons that are clickable so people can connect with you on social media.

The contact section is an important part of your website, but you will notice that we do not rely solely on the contact section to display your contact information. We believe that your contact information should be clearly visible on the website in multiple locations as well as regardless of where the user is currently located.

Additional Pages that are on your website:

  • Privacy policy

The privacy policy is an important legal requirement for your website. We are not lawyers so we cannot advise you on legal matters, however we do know that it is very important to make sure that your website is legally compliant with a privacy policy that states who your website is intended for, how you handle information etc. We can provide you with a template, but you will ultimately be held responsible for any infringements. So we highly recommend you look into this as a matter of urgency and importance. Please consult your legal advisor for more information.

  • Cookie notice

The cookie notice is displayed to new visitors to your website informing them that you use cookies and that you have a privacy policy as well as a cookie policy in place. Your privacy policy may also contain the information on how your website uses cookies, but we recommend having both. On your cookie notice page there should be a clearly visible and easily accessible link to your privacy policy.

  • Image licenses links

We make use of stock images to make your website look fabulous. However it is important that only images are used that you have the permission to do so for. We make use of multiple platforms to get stock images, such as freepik.com, shutterstock.com, canva.com and others. If possible we will include proof of an image license on the website for all stock images used to prevent you from getting sued. However you will ultimately be held liable for any infringements, if you tell us to use an image that you do not have the right to use, with or without your knowledge of copyright, you will be held liable for the claims and not us. For images that you have taken, or your team has taken, it is assumed that you own the copyright, as such this your privacy policy should also clearly state that anyone that uses your images without permission are infringement and can be held liable for copyright claims.
